I love working on Far From Home much more than working on the house but, priorities and all that.

In this episode of the Sci-Fi Webcomic Far From Home: Jake’s Dad is left alone to his thoughts.

Well, we finally get to see what Jake’s Dad’s name is: Mark.

I’ve never had kids myself but, let’s just say I have it on very good and numerous authorities that most parents have had thoughts similar to Mark’s at one time or another.

The closure of this section of the current story arc dovetails nicely with the fact that I’m going to be moving during the next two weeks.  If all goes well, the next section of this arc will continue starting Monday, January 30th.

FFH Sci-Fi Webcomic/Stel-Cart-Div Transmission:  Jake’s Mom Concept.

Not that Jake has a Mom is a concept.  That’s a given.  No, it’s no secret that Jake has a Mom. It’s only that we’re going to be seeing her soon and I realized I hadn’t spent a lot of time developing her look.

I’ve tried a few variations, and here’s the one I think is going to stick.

In this episode of the Far From Home Sci-Fi Webcomic:  Jake’s Dad asks a few unsettling questions.

This is one of the pages I was a little worried about.  Not so much for the art (I always worry about that.)

I was more worried about the scene in general.  In the last version of this webcomic, a similar thing happens in the storyline. Later, someone who is a pretty fair writer in his own right mentioned to me that the scene just didn’t seem realistic and showed me why.

I don’t claim to be anything more than a hack writer at best. (Just take a look at my twitter profile . . . heh.) However, I do hope that this time around things are a little more believable.

Anyway, enough whining. 

On a lighter note: I’m sure you’ve noticed that I was able to get this one done in color.  I’ve been trying to schedule the time I use to work on the comic a little better than I have previously.  It went pretty well this week.  Can’t promise that this will become a trend, but I’m hoping it will.

For those who are only reading this after 1/3/2011 I’ll just say that the previous blog contained a long explanation of why I had pulled ALL advertising off the site.  If you want to read the whole thing, I’m sure there’s a cached version out there somewhere.

Looking at the site in its present state, it’s obvious I haven’t pulled everything that could be considered an ad.  I’ve left the Inkoutbreak Banner Exchange up both because its purpose is the generation of new readers and it introduces you to new webcomics you might not find otherwise.

If the time comes when I offer you all anything extra, free or otherwise, then I’ll also need to put up some kind of notice.  This again is advertising.

I guess what I was trying to say yesterday was I don’t want the site to become a blinking, flashing, Times Square sort of thing.

Anyway, sometimes I get a little impulsive.  Sorry for any confusion.

Have a sci-fi webcomic of your own? Try out the free Photoshop brushes provided by the people over at Obsidian Dawn.

Quite a while back I did a piece for Denver Brubaker’s “Tales of a Checkered Man” webcomic.

It’s a humorous story that revolves around a wannabe superhero that soon begins to figure out he’s in over his head.  At least that’s my brief synopsis.  Denver may have something else in mind.

I love the artwork.  It’s done in a kind of “Dark Noir” B/W that runs a bit counter to the humor found in the story.  It works well.

Anyway, enough of the art critique.  Especially as I’m not a critic.  I may not know art but, I know what I like.  Heh

I prefer working with the Sci-Fi genre but, this was a nice break from the routine.

Heh . . . Writing Jake’s last line in this strip, I couldn’t help thinking of the movie “Shrek.”  Where Donkey’s coming down the stairs saying, “Look at my eye twitching.”

Last post I mentioned that I’m working on catching up little by little with the colors for the webcomic.

Still working the kinks out a bit but the colors overall are much easier since I’ve been putting more detail into the inks.

Anyway, here’s a sample of what’s coming . . .

I should start posting the colored versions of recent pages in the near future.
